Dr. Marcia Perry, graduate of Albert Einstein School of Medicine in the Bronx, NY, received her Emergency Medicine Training at the University of Michigan Medical School. Since graduation, she has been on the faculty at the University of Michigan, and currently serves as Assistant Professor and Associate Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Emergency Medicine. In addition to providing compassionate clinical care, Dr. Perry continues to teach at the University of Michigan. From 2007 to 2019, she also served as an Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, and provides clinical care and teaching at the University of Michigan.
In addition to her faculty role in the Doctoring Program within the University of Michigan Medical School, she has an appointment in the office of Health Equity and Inclusion(OHEI). In OHEI, she is the Director of House Officer Programs, the Director of the Health Equity Visiting Clerkship, and the Director of the Health Equity and Quality Scholars Program. Her commitment to eliminating Healthcare disparities include planning and developing the annual Michigan Medicine Health Equity Leadership weekend leadership with an aim to develop leaders and change agents for health equity. In this leadership role, Dr. Perry has played an integral role to advancing Quality Improvement in Healthcare Disparities, as part of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Pursuing Excellence Healthcare Disparities Collaborative. Dr. Perry has served as a champion in identifying opportunities and addressing challenges of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Emergency Department, and in identifying foundational elements for engaging new clinicians in quality improvement efforts to eliminate health care disparities.
Dr. Perry believes in the importance of strong teams, and the value in building and supporting diverse talent pipelines, and thus serves as a mentor for minority medical students and residents, aids in recruiting new faculty talent, and as a faculty advisor.
Dr. Perry is currently on active board member on the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and the Chair of the Awards Committee for the Academy of Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine.
