Dr. Bynum is the Margaret Terpenning Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Research Professor in the Institute of Gerontology, Geriatric Center Associate Director for Health Policy and Research, and a member of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. She received her medical and public health degrees from Johns Hopkins, did her residency and chief residency at Dartmouth, and completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine at Johns Hopkins. While on faculty at Dartmouth Medical School, Dr. Bynum received prestigious awards from the Robert Wood Johnson Physician Faculty Scholar Program and the National Institute of Aging Beeson Scholar Program. She has been an Atlantic Philanthropies Health & Aging Policy Fellow. At University of Michigan, Dr. Bynum has a robust NIH-funded research program including a NIA Center for Aging and Demography of Alzheimer’s Disease, called the Center to Accelerate Population Research in Alzheimer's (CAPRA), for which she is the principal investigator. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Forum on Aging, Disability and Independence and been a member of two NAM consensus studies and several workshops. Dr. Bynum became Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs for the Department of Internal Medicine in 2021.
