Insurance and Resources for MD Students
Good health begins with you.
At Michigan Medicine, we believe that as future doctors, you need to take care of your own well-being first. That’s why we offer all medical students comprehensive health and wellness services.
As a student in our MD Program, you’ll not only have access to services provided through the Medical School but also to health and wellness programs available through the University of Michigan.
Free, confidential support for current students with mental health concerns:
- Crisis Text Line - Text “UMICH” to 741741 to connect with a trained crisis volunteer
- CAPS After Hours - Call 734-764-8312 to reach the UM Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) after-hours support line and speak to a licensed mental health professional
Health Care
As a medical student, you can access comprehensive outpatient care through the University Health Service. If you do not already have health insurance, you can enroll in one of the health care plans offered through the University of Michigan, including GradCare or the Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan.
All medical students are required to carry health insurance coverage while enrolled in the MD Program and must provide proof of required immunizations.

All medical students are enrolled in a long-term disability insurance plan, and you can extend and increase your coverage after graduation.
