OutMD promotes awareness of LGBTQIA+ medical issues through regular reviews of curricula, outreach activities, lunch-time discussions and community action campaigns. We work to establish professional contacts and networking opportunities with medical professionals for students through the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), LGBTQ People in Medicine, UMMS and University Health Services.

We provide a socially supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ students and allies at UMMS and within the University’s graduate schools and serve as a resource for UMMS individuals or groups requesting information about conferences, community activities and supportive venues.

Our events have included ally training sessions, panel discussions on gender transitioning, lectures addressing the marginalization of and within the LGBTQIA+ community, round table discussions on gays in faith, and treatment of all issues that set up barriers in health care. In addition, we host regular social events.
