The University of Michigan Medical School Office of Faculty Development team is dedicated to empowering and enriching the career and professional development of faculty through comprehensive training, support and guidance. We prioritize faculty satisfaction, which in turn enhances institutional success and impacts patient care, education and research.
Our Vision
- To improve faculty members' ability to achieve success in their careers while increasing their satisfaction with their professional experience at the University of Michigan.
- To advance the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty members in UMMS.
The Office of Faculty Development was established in 2010 with a focus on supporting faculty members at every stage of their careers. With a team of ten dedicated staff members, the Office offers programming, resources, and consultation services for faculty spanning from new faculty orientation to leadership development. Our efforts help attract exceptional talent, fostering a supportive and desirable workplace at the U-M Medical School.
Aligned with institutional priorities and strategies such as enhanced well-being, leadership development and belonging, the Office collaborates closely with Medical School leadership and other Michigan Medicine Offices to ensure its offerings are relevant and timely. These include seminars, workshops, executive coaching, mentoring committees, networking opportunities, and avenues for feedback.

The mission of Organizational Learning is to empower people through lifelong learning. They are the university’s central department for professional, career, and leadership development. Organizational Learning promotes campus culture change initiatives and offers professional, career, and leadership development opportunities for U-M faculty and staff.
Founded in 1962 at the University of Michigan, the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) was the first teaching center in the country. CRLT is part of the Provost's Office and works with faculty, graduate student instructors (GSIs) and academic administrators in all nineteen schools and colleges to support and enhance learning and teaching at U-M. CRLT offers a comprehensive array of curricular and instructional development activities.
