The University of Michigan Medical School Department of Dermatology Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship reflects the broad scope and growth of the pediatric dermatology subspecialty.
Upon successful completion of our one-year fellowship program, trainees will be eligible for the Pediatric Dermatology Subspeciality Certification Exam offered by the American Board of Dermatology.
Our ACGME accredited training program involves outpatient and inpatient clinical training in the diagnosis and management of pediatric dermatologic disease, hands-on laser and procedural surgery in both the clinic and OR, multidisciplinary management of vascular anomalies and opportunities to collaborate with other pediatric subspecialties. Fellows will receive active mentorship and have opportunities for scholarly activity and research.

The Department of Dermatology currently has two board-certified pediatric dermatologists: Dr. Jennifer Mancuso, Program Director and Dr. Cynthia Nicholson.
- Eligibility for Fellowship Training
Qualified applicants will have completed a dermatology residency program which meets ACGME requirements by the specified start date. Board eligibility in dermatology is required at the beginning of the fellowship. - Valid ECFMG certificate if medical school of graduation is not the United State or Canada

- Employment eligibility – applicants should note if they are a US citizen, have valid Permanent Resident (green card) status, have a valid EAD, or will require visa sponsorship. The program is currently able to sponsor a J-1 visa through ECFMG, with limited exceptions.

Fellows work closely with faculty in clinic, allowing for daily feedback. Fellows are formally evaluated by faculty quarterly and have formal 6-month evaluation meetings. Fellows are also given the opportunity to evaluate faculty, staff and the program.
Fellows will regularly work with and supervise residents and medical students. Fellows also have opportunities to provide resident lectures and participate in workshops, journal clubs and case presentations.
Professional Development
Fellows are provided with up to $2500 for Professional Development, commonly used for attending a national conference or purchasing educational materials.
Parking
The majority of our faculty & fellows choose to purchase a Blue Permit, allowing them to park nearest to the medical campus, with a short walk to the clinic space. Blue permits are currently $781 for the year, with monthly payroll deduction available. Additional information on available permits, including no-cost options
Visiting Rotators
At this time, we are unable to accept visiting rotators. We do not anticipate this will change in the near future, but you are welcome to check with the program coordinator.
Current fellows are training to become future leaders in dermatology. We emphasize teamwork, excellence, and leadership while preparing our fellows with resources to be successful in their careers.
