Hospital Medicine: Conferences & Lectures

The Department of Internal Medicine Division of Hospital Medicine holds regularly scheduled conferences including a bi-monthly journal club, a weekly hospitalist meeting and two weekly case conferences. The majority of these activities are available for physicians to earn CME credit. 

Accreditation

The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. As an accredited CME provider, the Medical School can designate AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for university activities that meet ACCME requirements.

Education Opportunities

Hospital Medicine Grand Rounds

This is a highly educational venue for invited faculty, both visiting and from within the Division of Hospital Medicine, to share their research findings or discuss medical interests, to engage, educate, and collaborate with the audience.

Hospital Medicine Morbidity and Mortality Conference

An important venue to discuss lessons learned in a safe, multidisciplinary environment from challenging cases to improve faculty’s collective understanding of error, bias, and missteps.

Scholarship in Progress Conference

A venue for faculty members to present ideas and current progress of scholarly or research activities with the goal of obtaining feedback from a multi-faceted peer group, improving collaboration, stimulating new idea generation within the group, and improving the overall understanding of research, study design, statistical methods, and analysis.

Hospital Medicine Journal Club

A bimonthly forum for faculty members to evaluate and discuss key articles from recent publications that are pertinent to hospital medicine. Besides discussing the strengths and limitations of the study’s design and methodology, findings are summarized in a larger context to inform the audience about aspects of their practice.

American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Activities

  • MOC Medical Knowledge Modules – Two live learning sessions held semi-annually to help faculty stay current with their ABIM certification requirements.
  • MOC Practice Assessment Programs – Group-based quality improvement programs that subscribe to the ABIM’s requirements for improving the quality of patient care. All faculty members who successfully participate in the project qualify for MOC credit.
